Wal-Mart Earnigs Fall, Medtronic Sales Rise 3%

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc fourth quarter sales rose 1.7% to $109.1 billion and net income fell 7% to $3.8 billion or 96 cents a share. Medtronic, Inc third quarter revenues rose 3% to $3.5 billion and net income rose 839% to $723 million or 65 cents a share.

Arbitron Inc], an international media and marketing information services firm reported fourth quarter revenues rose 16.8% to $93.6 million from $80.1 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 8% to $3.4 million or 13 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $3.7 million or 13 cents per share a year ago.

Revenues for the fiscal year 2008 rose 9% to $368.8 million from $338.5 million a year ago. Net income for the fiscal year 2008 fell 7.5% to $37.2 million $1.36 per diluted share compared to net income of $40.2 million or $1.35 per share a year ago.
