New Orders
New orders for manufactured durable goods in December increased $2.8 billion or 1.3 percent to $228.1 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today. This was at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 5.4 percent November increase.
Shipments
Shipments of manufactured durable goods in December, up four of the last five months, increased $7.5 billion or 3.5 percent to $221.1 billion. This was at the highest level since the series began and followed a 0.6 percent November increase.
Unfilled Orders
Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods in December, up eight consecutive months, increased $14.8 billion or 2.4 percent to $637.3 billion. This was at the highest level since the series began and followed a 3.2 percent November increase.
Inventories
Inventories of manufactured durable goods in December, up five of the last six months, increased $0.1 billion to $285.6 billion. This followed a 0.6 percent November increase.
Capital Goods Industries
Nondefense
Nondefense new orders for capital goods in December decreased $0.5 billion or 0.6 percent to $87.2 billion.
Defense
Defense new orders for capital goods in December decreased slightly or 0.2 percent to $6.8 billion.
