AutoZone Net Rises; Staple Net Drops

AutoZone, Inc third quarter sales rose 9% to $1.66 billion and net income rose 9% to $173.7 million or $3.13 a share. Staples, Inc first quarter sales rose 19% to $5.82 billion and net profit fell 33% to $143 million or 20 cents a share.

American Eagle Outfitters, Inc, the retailer reported first quarter sales fell 4% to $612.0 million from $640.3 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 50% to $22.0 million or 11 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $43.9 million or 21 cents per share a year ago.

Comparable same store sales decreased 10%.

American Eagle Outfitters, Inc (AEO: chart) in the last one year traded as high as $19.24 in May 2008 and as low as $6.98 in November 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price of $14.48 the company has market cap of $2.99 billion.

AutoZone, Inc, the automotive parts retailer reported third quarter sales rose 9% to $1.66 billion from $1.52 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 9% to $173.7 million or $3.13 per diluted share compared to net income of $158.6 million or $2.49 per share a year ago.

Comparable same store sales decreased 3.2%.

Dollar Tree, Inc, the operator of discount variety stores reported first quarter sales rose 14.2% to $1.20 billion from $1.05 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 38.5% to $60.4 million or 66 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $43.6 million or 48 cents per share a year ago.

Comparable same store sales increased 9.2%.

Dollar Tree, Inc (DLTR: chart) in the last one year traded as high as $45.33 in March 2009 and as low as $27.61 in June 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price of $44.40 the company has market cap of $4.01 billion.

Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, the apparel and household-product designer reported fourth quarter revenues fell 1.6% to $1.22 billion from $1.24 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 57% to $45 million or 44 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $104 million or $1.00 per share a year ago.

Net revenues for the fiscal year rose 3% to $5.02 billion from $4.88 billion a year ago. Net income in the year fell 3.3% to $406.0 million or $4.01 per diluted share compared to net income of $419.8 million or $3.99 per share a year ago.

Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation (RL: chart) in the last one year traded as high as $82.02 in September 2008 and as low as $31.22 in March 2009. Based on the yesterday’s closing price of $54.38 the company has market cap of $5.39 billion.

RBC Bearings Incorporated, the manufacturer and marketer of highly engineered precision bearings and components reported fourth quarter sales fell 9% to $83.8 million from $92.1 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 46% to $6.5 million or 30 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $12.0 million or 55 cents per share a year ago.

Net sales for the fiscal year rose 7.6% to $355.8 million from $330.6 million a year ago. Net income in the year fell 14.2% to $34.5 million or $1.58 per diluted share compared to net income of $40.2 million or $1.87 per share a year ago.
