Precision Castparts Corp led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 9.0%. Coldwater Creek Inc swings to a net loss in the second quarter. Jo-Ann Stores, Inc second quarter sales rise. American Eagle said second quarter sales fell 5% and net dropped 52%.

 
[R]2:00 PM New York – Precision Castparts Corp led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 9.0%. Coldwater Creek Inc swings to a net loss in the second quarter. Jo-Ann Stores, Inc second quarter sales rise. American Eagle said second quarter sales fell 5% and net dropped 52%. [/R]

Of the stocks in S&P 500 index, 86 increased, 408 declined and 6 were unchanged.

Eastman Kodak Company led the decliners in the S&P 500 index with a loss of 5.9% followed by losses in Lennar Corporation of 3.7%, in Integrys Energy Group, Inc of 2.8%, in Meredith Corporation of 2.5% and in D.R. Horton, Inc of 2.4%.

Precision Castparts Corp led gainers in the S&P 500 index with a rise of 9.0% followed by gains in The Boeing Company 8.3%, in American International Group, Inc of 6.7% and Rockwell Collins, Inc of 3.2%.

Other Movers

American International Group (AIG: chart) surged 27% to $47.81 on the speculation that former chief executive Maurice Greenberg may play a key role in reshaping AIG and cooperate with recently appointed chief executive Robert Benmosche. According to an interview of Benmosche with Reuters, he is looking forward to seek his counsel in finding solutions.

Greenberg, the largest single private stockholder in the company has expressed his doubts about the previous chief Edward Liddy who ran Allstate Corp. AIG had chief executives in the last five years.

A-Power Energy Generation Systems, Ltd (APWR: chart) fell 9.0% 79 cents to $8.83 after the provider of distributed power generation systems in China reported second quarter sales fell 12.5% to $57.5 million from $65.7 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 1.6% to $6.3 million or 14 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $6.2 million or 18 cents per share a year ago.

American Eagle Outfitters, Inc (AEO: chart) slid 0.2% or 3 cents to $14.55 after the retailer reported second quarter sales fell 5% to $657.6 million from $688.8 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 52% to $28.6 million or 14 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $59.8 million or 29 cents per share a year ago.

Coldwater Creek Inc (CWTR: chart) decreased 3.0% or 21 cents to $6.97 after the women's apparel retailer said second quarter revenues fell 7% to $225.2 million from $241.4 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $4.9 million or 5 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $3.1 million or 3 cents per share a year ago.

dELiA*s, Inc (DLIA: chart) rallied 0.3% or 1 cent to $2.82 after the direct marketing and retail company reported second quarter revenues rose 2.4% to $45.7 million from $44.6 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $4.7 million or 15 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $5 million or 16 cents per share a year ago.

Eastman Kodak Company (EK: chart) fell 8.0% or 44 cents to $5.07.

eLong, Inc (LONG: chart) increased 6.4% or 48 cents to $7.98 an online travel service provider in China said second quarter revenues rose 1.4% to Rmb 81.9 million from Rmb 80.8 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter was $9.5 million or Rmb 0.19 per diluted share compared to net loss of Rmb 20.3 million or Rmb 0.40 per share a year ago.

Fred’s, Inc (FRED: chart) fell 0.8% or 12 cents to $13.43 after the discount store operator reported second quarter sales fell 3% to $434.2 million from $447.1 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 320% to $4.2 million or 11 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $1 million or 3 cents per share a year ago.

[Genesco (GCO: chart) surged 7.5% or $1.57 to $22.47 after the shoe retailer reported second quarter sales fell 5.2% to $334.7 million from $353.1 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $2.72 million or 13 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $10.8 million or 58 cents per share a year ago.

Jo-Ann Stores, Inc (JAS: chart) added 9.0% or $2.33 to $27.98 after the fabric and craft retailer said second quarter revenues rose 4% to $419.4 million from $403.0 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $3.2 million or 13 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $11.7 million or 47 cents per share a year ago.

LaBarge, Inc (LB: chart) slid 0.1% or 1 cent to $10.25 an electrical components manufacturer reported fourth quarter sales fell 17% to $64.8 million from $77.8 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 43.5% to $2.6 million or 16 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $4.6 million or 28 cents per share a year ago.

Lennar Corporation (LEN: chart) the provider of financial services fell 4.3% or 68 cents to $14.90.

MBIA Inc (MBI: chart) increased 11.6% to $6.25.

Northrop Grumman (NOC: chart) increased 2% to $49.45 after it won contract of 3.4 billion from the U.S. Air Force and $2.43 billion contract from the U.S. Navy.

Oshkosh Corp (OSK: chart) surges 22% to 33.63 after the trucking company won a contract from the U.S. Army for $281 million.
