Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 331.99 or 2.55% to a close of 13,289.54, S&P 500 increased 3.18% or 40.77 to 1,469.00, and Nasdaq Composite Index added 82.11 or 1.57% to a close of 2,662.91. In Toronto TSX Composite increased 256.07 or 1.92% to close at 13,625.19.
Of the 30 stocks in Dow Jones Industrial Average, 29 closed higher, 1 closed lower, and none was unchanged.
Citigroup led the gainers in the index with a rise of 7% followed by increases in AIG of 5.4%, in General Motors of 4.8%, and in Intel of 4.4%. Coca Cola closed 0.2% lower.
Of the stocks in S&P 500, 473 closed higher, 24 fell, and 3 were unchanged. Two stocks fell more than 3% and two hundred and thirteen increased 3% or more.
Freddie Mac led the gainers in the region with a rise of 14% followed by increases in CB Richard Ellis of 13%, in Tenet Healthcare of 10.6%, in Fannie Mae of 10.5%, in Tribune of 10%, and in Titanium Metals of 9.3%.
In London FTSE 100 Index closed up 165.50 or 2.70% to 6,306.20, in Paris CAC 40 Index increased 127.04 or 2.34% to close at 5,561.21, and in Frankfurt DAX index advanced 192.31 or 2.55% to close at 7,723.66. In Zurich trading SMI rebounded 219.72 or 2.61% to close at 8,650.82.
In Tokyo Nikkei 225 Index lost 69.07 or 0.45% to close at 15,153.78, in Hong Kong Hang Seng index closed up 161.03 or 0.59% to 27,371.24, in Australia ASX 200 closed down 62.60 or 0.97% to close 6,370.10.
In South Korea Kospi Index decreased 25.10 or 1.35% to close at 1,834.69, Thailand closed down 2.47 or 0.30% to 820.52, and Indonesia edged higher 43.94 or 1.67% to 2,671.90. India lost 188.86 or 0.99% to 18,938.87.
In Latin Markets Mexico led the gainers with a rise of 4.19% followed by increases in Brazil of 3.84%, in Argentina of 2.8%, in Chile of 3.4%, and in Peru of 2.2%. Venezuela jumped 1.7% and Colombia closed nearly unchanged.
Bond Yields edged higher on 10-year U.S. bonds to 4.03% and 30-year bonds increased to 4.41%.
Commodities, Metals, and Currencies
Crude oil declined $3.47 to close at $90.95 per barrel for a front month contract, up 41.00% for the year, natural gas decreased 36 cents to $7.20 per mBtu, and gasoline futures decreased 8.90 cents to close at 228.39 cents per gallon.
Gold edged lower $13.90 in New York trading to close at $807.30 per ounce, silver closed down 15 cents to $14.533 per ounce, and copper for front month delivery increased 4.15 cents to 3023.40 cents per pound and in London trading closed down $154.50 to $6,578.50.
Dollar edged higher against euro to $1.4842 and higher to 108.7300 yen.
1:00PM New York – U.S. Stocks jumped sharply higher after comments from the Fed Vice Chairman indicated a possible rate decline.
U.S. stocks rallied after market interpreted comments from the Fed Vice Chairman as a possible rate cut in the upcoming meeting.
Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 280 to 13,228, Nasdaq surged 72 to 2,652, and S&P 500 jumped 33 to 1,461. |
