Company expects earnings per share for the fourth quarter to be in a range of $0.90 to $0.93, versus its previous guidance range of $0.90 to $1.05.
Kohl’s Corporation ( KSS) reported total sales for the four-week period ended January 31 decreased 9.0% from a year ago. On a comparable basis same store sales fell 13.4% in the month.
Total sales for the year declined 0.5% and on a comparable store basis, sales for the year decreased 6.9%.
Luxury Stores Sales Plunge in Double Digits
Dillard''s, Inc. ( DDS) reported sales for the four weeks ended January 31, 2009 declined 13% to $3.77 billion compared to a year ago period. Comparable same store sales fell 12%.
Sales for the 52 weeks ended January 31, 2009 decreased 6% to $6.74 billion from a year ago period. For the period comparable same store sales also declined 7%.
Saks Inc ( SKS) January sales decreased 22.7% to $147.1 million compared to $190.3 million in the month last year. Comparable store sales fell 23.7% for the month.
For the fiscal year ended January 31, 2009 total sales declined 6.0% to $3.05 billion compared to $3.25 billion in the prior year period. Comparable same store sales decreased 6.1% for the fiscal year.
Nordstrom, Inc. ((JWN) January preliminary sales decreased 3.7% to $468 million from $486 million in the month a year ago. Same store sales fell 11.4% in the month.
Preliminary fiscal year sales decreased 6.3% to $8.27 billion compared to $8.83 billion for the same period in 2007. Year-to-date same store sales decreased 9.0%.
Apparel Retailers Struggle
Aeropostale, Inc (ARO) net sales in January increased 13% to $96.6 million from $85.6 million in the month a year ago. Same store sales increased 11% for the month compared to increase of 5% in the period a year ago.
Year to date total net sales increased 19% to $1.886 billion from $1.591 billion in the year ago period. Year to date same store sales increased 8% compared to increase of 3% in the period a year ago.
The company expects earnings for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008 in the range of $1.00 per share.
American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (AEO) January sales decreased 15% to $138.9 million from $163.9 million in the month a year ago.
Comparable same store sales decreased 22% in the month compared to a declined of 7% in the month a year ago.
Total sales in the in the year ended decreased 2% to $2.99 billion compared to $3.05 billion in the month a year ago. Comparable same stores sales decreased 10% for the year compared to the same period last year.
Management guided fourth quarter earnings per share to be 19 cent to 21 cent compared to 66 cent last year.
Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (ANF) reported January net sales fell 13% to $191.5 million from $219.7 million prior month period. Comparable store sales decreased 20%. January direct-to-consumer total net sales increased 7% to $26.0 million from a year ago month.
For the fiscal year ended January 31, 2009 net sales decrease of 6% to $3.540 billion from $3.750 billion for the fiscal year 2008. Comparable store sales of fiscal 2008 decreased 13%.
For the fifty-two week year ended January 31, 2009 direct-to-consumer net sales increased 5% to $271.0 million. |
