| Same-store sales rose on back-to-school purchases, falling gas prices, and unfavorable weather conditions. A number of retailers posted better-than-expected gains, while Wal-Mart was a notable exception. Department stores and teen retailers like Federated Department Stores, J.C. Penney and Nordstrom posted solid gains, while discount retailer struggled. |
