| Retail companies reported generally modest sales gains for June, blaming higher prices for energy and food and slowing housing market. However, sales were not as weak as some analysts had anticipated. Discount and teen-apparel retailers performed well in June. Lower prices sent Wal-Mart same-store sales up 2.4%, beating the average estimate. The companies posting disappointing results included Macy''''''''s Inc. as well as apparel chains such as AnnTaylor Stores and Gap Inc. |
