KBW Surges 30% First Day

KBW gained 30% and Physicians Formula – 24% on their start on Thursday after pricing at the top of an estimated range. China-based Canadian Solar, insurer OneBeacon, Metabolix and Capella Educationa also made good gains. A hundred and eighty companies priced shares so far in 2006, and 58% of them are currently trading above their offering price.

 
Medical devicer maker Hansen Medical (HNSN: chart) plans to offer 6.3 million shares within a price range of $11-$13 a share, in a bid to raise $93.4 million. Morgan Stanley and J.P. Morgan will lead the group of underwriters on the deal.

The New Jersey-based rental business operator Hertz Global Holdings (HTZ: chart) plans to offer 88.2 million shares within a price range of $16-$18 a share, in a bid to raise $1.8 billion. Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank and J.P. Morgan will underwrite the deal.

The Phoenix-based solar modules maker First Solar (FSLR: chart) plans to offer 17.5 million shares within a price range of $17-$19 a share, in a bid to raise $ 382.4 million. Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley will head the list of underwriters on the deal.

The New York Mercantile Exchange, or NYMEX (NMX: chart), intends to offer 6 million shares, including 1.1 million from selling stockholders, within a price range of $48-$52 a share, in a bid to raise $358.8 million. J.P. Morgan and Merrill Lynch will be the lead underwriters on the deal.

Oil and gas developer Venoco (VQ: chart) plans to offer 12.5 million shares, including 2.5 million from selling stockholders, within a price range of $19-$21 per share, in a bid to raise $301.9 million. Credit Suisse, Lehman Brothers and J.P. Morgan will be the lead managers on the deal.

Adcare Health Systems (ADK: chart) plans to offer 800,000 shares at $9.50 a share, in a bid to raise $8.7 million. Newbridge Securities and Joseph Gunnar will underwrite the offering.
