A quiet summer and investor worries about inflation and interest rates have slowed the initial public offering market, but analysts expect stocks to begin picking up after Labor Day. No companies are planning to go public in the upcoming week, and the number of withdrawn or postponed IPOs so far this year is the highest it''s been since 2001. A hundred and twenty seven companies have launched IPOs so far in 2006, and only 40% of them are currently trading above their offering price.

Shares of InnerWorkings Soar

Shares of InnerWorkings, a provider of print-procurement services to corporations, surged 16% on their first day of trading Wednesday. Weak stock market through most of the summer led to a number of offerings being priced below forecast or withdrawn. A hundred and twenty six companies have launched IPOs so far in 2006, and only 40% of them are currently trading above their offering price.

Hard market conditions prompted by worries about inflation and interest-rate increases among other factors, caused two companies to withdraw or postpone scheduled IPOs in the first week of August. A hundred and twenty five companies have launched IPOs so far in 2006, and only 41% of them are currently trading above their offering price.

Evercore Prices Above the Forecast

Investment bank Evercore Partners stock surged more than 18% on their first day of trading Friday, snapping some disappointing initial public offerings from similar companies. An active merger and acquisition, and underwriting market, has increased the latest earnings of many established investment banks, but smaller rivals that launched IPOs this year have seen their shares suffer.
