Commercial crude inventories rise 2.8 million barrels from the previous week and are above the upper end of the range at 338.4 million barrels. Total motor gasoline inventories decreased 1.6 million barrels and distillate inventories increased by 0.3 million barrels from the previous week.

Second Quarter GDP Fall 0.7%

Second quarter decline was revised to a fall of 0.7% from the second read of 1% shrink based on more complete data. Lower imports and higher exports and government spending helped to arrest the economic decline in the quarter.

August New Home Sales Up 0.7%

Seasonally adjusted new home sales increased 0.7% to 429,000 but fell 3.4% from a year ago. The median sale price of new homes sold in the month was $195,200 and average price was $256,800 with 7.3 months of inventory.

August Durable Orders Fall 2.4%

August durable goods orders decreased 2.4% or $4 billion to $164.4 billion, second monthly decline in the last three months. Orders fell 4.8% in July. Excluding transportation orders edged slightly lower.

August Home Sales Fall 2.7%

Existing home sales fell 2.7% in August according to the National Association of Realtors. The seasonally adjusted home sales in the month were 5.1 million units, lower than 5.24 million in July.

Michigan Leads August Unemployment

Michigan led the unemployment across the nation in August with 15.2% followed by Nevada 13.2% rate and California 12.2%. The sharp decline in auto sales has devastated manufacturing jobs in the Midwest.
