GDP Expands at 3.2% in Q1

U.S. economy expanded at 3.2% in the first quarter after surging at 5.6% in the fourth. The price index of gross domestic purchases increased 1.7% in the quarter compared to 2% in the fourth. Change in private inventories added 1.57% compared to 3.79% in the fourth.

Weekly Jobless Claims Decrease 11,000

Seasonally adjusted weekly jobless claims decreased 11,000 to 448,000 from the revised previous week claims of 459,000. The preliminary insured unemployment rate in the week ending April 17 was unchanged from the prior week''s unrevised rate of 3.6%.

Fed Estimates Low Rates

Weekly Crude Inventories Rises 1.9 mb

Crude oil inventories at the end of last week increased 1.9 million barrels to 357.8 million barrels. Motor Gasoline inventories decreased 1.2 million barrels and that of finished gasoline decreased and distillate increased by 2.9 million barrels.

March New Home Sales Rise 26.9%

Seasonally adjusted new home sales increased 26.9% to 411,000 and above 23.8% from a year ago. The median sale price of new homes sold in the month was $214,000 and average price was $258,600 with 6.7 months of inventory.

March Durable Orders Fall 1.3%

March durable goods orders decreased 1.3% or $2.2 billion to $176.7 billion from the revised February orders increase of 1.1%. This decrease followed three consecutive monthly increase including 1.1% in February. Orders excluding transportation orders increased 2.8% and defense increased 4%.

March PPI Increased 0.7%

The Producer Price Index increased 0.7% in March on a seasonally adjusted basis after falling at 0.6% rate in February and rising 1.4% in January. On unadjusted basis prices of finished goods increased 6.0%, a largest gain since September 2008.

March Home Sales Rise 6.8%

Seasonally adjusted existing home sales in March increased 6.8% to 5.35 million units from 5.01 million in February but 16.1% higher from a year ago month in 2009 of 4.61 million units.
