Precision Castparts Corp. (
PCP: chart), metal products maker, reported a second-quarter profit of $154.8 million, or $1.13 per share, compared with a profit of $79.1 million, or 58 cents per share, in the same quarter last year. The company said its earnings doubled due to a gain on the sale of its joint venture interest in a steel ring-rolling operation in Mexico. Revenue in the last three months jumped 52% to $1.32 billion.
Commercial Metals Co. (
CMC: chart), manufacturer and recycler of steel and metal products, reported fourth-quarter earnings of $128.7 million, or $1.04 per share, up from a year-ago profit of $83.7 million, or 69 cents per share. Revenue in the latest three months climbed to $2.25 billion from $1.74 billion in the same period a year earlier.
AK Steel Holding Corp. (
AKS: chart), steel maker, reported fiscal fourth-quarter earnings of $128.7 million, or $1.04 a share, up from a year-ago profit of $83.7 million, or 69 cents a share. Revenue climbed to $2.25 billion from $1.74 billion in the same period a year earlier.
Level 3 Communications Inc. (
LVLT: chart), provider of Internet broadband protocol services, said its third-quarter loss narrowed to $138 million, or 12 cents per share, compared to a loss of $204 million, or 29 cents per share in a year-ago period. Revenue jumped to $875 million from $384 million during the last-year third quarter.
Travelzoo Inc. (
TZOO: chart), Internet media company, reported third-quarter net income of $4.55 million, or 28 cents per share, up 98% versus $2.3 million, or 13 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue climbed to $17.6 million from $13.4 million in the third quarter a year ago.
Avery Dennison Corp. (
AVY: chart), office products maker, said that its third-quarter income fell to $85 million, or 85 cents per share versus $86.2 million, or 86 cents per share, a year ago. Revenue for the last three months climbed to $1.42 billion from $1.36 billion a year ago
BP Plc (
BP: chart), oil producer, reported a third-quarter profit drop to $6.98 billion from $6.46 billion in the last year period due to the fallout from a broken pipeline in Alaska, an explosion at a Texas refinery and rising taxes in Britain. Revenue rose 4% from a year ago to $70.73 billion.
Coach Inc. (
COH: chart), leather goods maker, reported a net income of $125.6 million, or 34 cents per share, versus a prior-year profit of $93.6 million, or 24 cents per share. First-quarter profit was lifted by strong sales and improved operating margin. Revenue rose to $553.9 million from $449 million in the year earlier period.
Lockheed Martin Corp. (
LMT: chart), defence contractor, earned $629 million, or $1.46 per share, in the third quarter, up from $427 million, or 96 cents per share, in the same quarter a year ago. Revenue jumped 4% to $9.6 billion from $9.2 billion in the year-ago period.
Brinker International (
EAT: chart), operator of Chili''s Grill & Bar restaurants and other chains, said first-quarter earnings rose to $47.6 million, or 57 cents per share, compared with $31.8 million, or 36 cents per share a year earlier. Revenue climbed to $1.04 billion, compared to $975.9 million in the year-ago period, as restaurant capacity growth of 7.3% offset a 2.1% decline in same-store sales.
