PG&E Posts 56% Higher Quarterly Profit

PG&E third-quarter profit increased 56% on higher gas transmission revenue and the recovery of certain costs. Cablevision Systems reported a narrower third-quarter loss as the company signed up more customers for high-speed Internet access and digital phone. Interpublic Group third-quarter loss narrowed on lower costs and a slight increase in revenue. Lamar Advertising third-quarter profit climbed 39%, helped by increased revenue.

 
PG&E Corp. (PCG: chart), power and gas company, said that its third-quarter net income rose to $393 million, or $1.09 per share, compared with $252 million, or 65 cents per share a year ago. Revenue jumped 13% to $3.17 billion from $2.8 billion during the third quarter a year ago.

Cablevision Systems Corp. (CVC: chart), cable TV operator, said that its third-quarter loss widened to $59.2 million, or 21 cents per share, compared with a year-ago loss of $63 million, or 22 cents per share. Revenue climbed to $1.41 billion from $1.24 billion in the same period a year earlier.

Interpublic Group of Cos. (IPG: chart), advertising and marketing agency, said that it recorded a third-quarter earnings of $5.8 million, versus a year-ago loss of $102.8 million. Revenue climbed 1% to $1.45 billion from $1.44 billion in the same period a year earlier.

Lamar Advertising (LAMR: chart), outdoor advertising space seller, said that its third-quarter net profit increased to $16.8 million, or 16 cents per share, from $12 million, or 11 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenue rose 10% to $292 million from $265.6 million a year ago.

Website Pros Inc. (WSPI: chart), Web services and online marketing provider, reported a third-quarter net income of $1.38 million, or 7 cents per share, compared with a year-ago net loss of $322,000, or 6 cents per share. Revenue climbed to $12 million from $10.1 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Greenfield Online Inc. (SRVY: chart), Internet surveys for marketing companies provider, said that its third-quarter net earnings increased to $1.84 million, or 7 cents per share, compared with $1.55 million, or 6 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue climbed to $24.9 million from $23.1 million during the third quarter last year.

Youbet.com Inc. (UBET: chart), Internet gambling company, reported a third-quarter net loss of $440,000, or a penny per share versus net earnings of $1.85 million, or 5 cents per share in the same quarter last year. Revenue jumped 42% to $37 million, compared with $26.1 million in the year-ago period.

Bitstream Inc. (BITS: chart), software development company, said that its third-quarter net earnings increased to $953,000, or 9 cents per share, compared with $312,000, or 3 cents per share, last year. Revenue climbed to $5.15 million from $3.83 million in the year-ago quarter.
