VimpelCom Communications ( VIP: chart), mobile phone firm, said that its fourth-quarter net income increased 30% to $198 million or $3.89 per share compared with $2.97 per share a year earlier. Net operating revenue climbed 59% to $1.45 billion. The company said that in the future it expects its subscriber growth to come primarily from countries outside Russia.
Rite Aid Corp. ( RAD: chart), drugstore operator, said that its fourth-quarter net income declined to $15.1 million, or 1 cent per share, compared with $1.25 billion, or $1.83 per share, in the year-ago period. Included in this year''s fourth quarter results was an $18.7 million charge for the early redemption of debt. Revenue fell to $4.56 billion versus $4.77 billion in the same period a year earlier. Same-store sales for the quarter climbed 3%, consisting of a 4.1% pharmacy same store sales increase and a 1.2% increase in front-end same store sales. The company said it expects total sales for fiscal 2008 to be between $25.3 billion and $26 billion. Same-store sales, which will not include the acquired stores until one year after close, are expected to improve 3.8% to 5.8% over fiscal 2007. Net loss for fiscal 2008 is expected to be 11 cents to 23 cents per share and includes estimated expense of integrating the acquired stores of $145 million.
Nitches Inc. ( NICH: chart), apparel company, recorded a second-quarter net loss of $511,000, or 10 cents per share, compared with net earnings of $45,000, or a penny per share, in the same period a year earlier. Revenue climbed to $14.3 million against $12.3 million in the same period a year ago. In the latest quarter the company had unfilled customer orders of $28.1 million, compared with $22.4 million at the same time last year. |
