Methode Electronics Posts a 67% Profit Rise

Focus Enhancements narrowed its fourth-quarter net loss on higher revenue. Profit increased 44% at World Fuel Services as fourth-quarter revenue rose just 3%. Gulf Island Fabrication said it lowered earnings reported for the first three quarters of 2006 after reversing overstated revenue from a contract. Methode Electronics third-quarter profit surged 67% due to higher sales of products in Europe and Asia.

 
Focus Enhancements Inc. (FCSE), video production company, said that its fourth-quarter net loss narrowed to $3.01 million, or 4 cents per share, compared with $3.26 million, or 5 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue climbed to $10.3 million versus $6.08 million in the same period a year earlier.

World Fuel Services Corp. (INT), aviation and marine fuel products and services firm, said that its fourth-quarter net earnings increased to $17.3 million, or 60 cents per share, compared with $12 million, or 42 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue climbed to $2.62 billion versus $2.53 billion in the same quarter a year ago.

Gulf Island Fabrication Inc. (GIFI), a fabricator of offshore oil platforms, said that its fourth-quarter net earnings increased to $3.73 million, or 26 cents per share, compared with $2.7 million, or 22 cents a share, in the year ago period. Revenue climbed to $76 million versus $41.4 million in the same period a year earlier. The company also said it discovered an error regarding estimated revenue on the Tahiti contract, and determined that it had overstated both revenue and net income in the first three quarters of 2006.

Advocat Inc. (AVCA), rehabilitation center operator, said that its fourth-quarter net earnings declined to $2.28 million, or 37 cents per share, compared with $12.9 million, or $1.99 per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue climbed 3.8% to $55.8 million versus $53.7 million in the same period a year earlier.

Methode Electronics (METH), maker of electronic components for the automotive and other industries, said that third-quarter sales jumped to $105.4 million versus $95.1 million a year earlier. Quarterly net was $4.7 million, or 13 cents per share, compared with $2.8 million, or 8 cents per share, a year earlier. The company said the sales increase was mainly due to improved sales of power distribution products, fiber-optic installations and automotive products in Europe and Asia.

Iowa Telecommunications Services Inc. (IWA), provider of telecom and Internet services, said that its fourth-quarter net income declined to $3.5 million, or 11 cents per share, compared with $11.6 million, or 36 cents per share, earned in the final three months of 2005. Quarterly revenue rose nearly 3%, reaching $59.8 million versus $58.2 million in the year-ago quarter.
