Level 3 Communications third-quarter loss shrank, helped by a gain from the sale of a unit and more than doubled revenue bolstered by demand for Internet protocol and voice services. Travelzoo generated 31% growth in revenue thanks to selling advertising on its Web site to travel agencies, airlines and resorts. Avery Dennison reported a slight profit drop due to weak U.S. sales and a steep environmental charge.

Level 3 Communications Inc. BP Plc (BP: chart), oil producer, reported a third-quarter profit drop to $6.98 billion from $6.46 billion in the last year period due to the fallout from a broken pipeline in Alaska, an explosion at a Texas refinery and rising taxes in Britain. Revenue rose 4% from a year ago to $70.73 billion.

Coach Inc. (COH: chart), leather goods maker, reported a net income of $125.6 million, or 34 cents per share, versus a prior-year profit of $93.6 million, or 24 cents per share.
