IBM Revenues Rises 5%, Earnings Up 20%

IBM revenues in the third quarter rose 5% to $25.3 billion and net income gained 20% to $2.8 billion and earnings per share from continuing operations increased 22% to $2.05 from $1.68 a share a year ago period. Internatioal Speedway Corp third quarter revenue rose 9%.

 
9:20PM New York - International Speedway Corporation revenue rose 9% and net income rose 308%. Material Sciences Corporation sales rose 1.1% and net loss was $1.3 million. RPM International Inc sales rose 5.9% and net income rose 1.8%.


IBM (IBM: chart) released its preliminary earnings and showed a rise in earnings and revenues. Revenues in the third quarter increased 5% to $25.3 billion and net income gained 20% to $2.8 billion from a year ago. The earnings per share from continuing operations increased 22% to $2.05 from $1.68 a share in the prior year period.

The technology giant reaffirmed earnings for the year of at least $8.75 a share, an increase of 22% from a year ago.

International Speedway Corporation, an operator of race car tracks reported third quarter revenues rose 9% to $213.2 million from $195.6 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 308% to $38.8 million or 79 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $9.5 million or 18 cents per share, a year ago.

International Speedway Corporation (ISCA: chart) in the last one year traded as high as $48.73 in October 2007 and as low as $31.22 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price the company has a market cap of $1.56 billion.

Material Sciences Corporation, a provider of material-based solutions for acoustical and coated applications reported second quarter sales rose 1.1% to $56.8 million from $56.2 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $1.3 million or 9 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $1.7 million or 12 cents per share, a year ago.

Material Sciences Corporation (MSC: chart) in the last one year traded as high as $10.94 in October 2007 and as low as $4.40 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price the company has a market cap of $62.07 million.

Nu Horizons Electronic Corp, a distributor of active and passive electronic components said second quarter sales rose 14.3% to $211.8 million from $185.4 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 75% to $192,000 or 1 cent per diluted share compared to net income of $783,000 or 4 cents per share, a year ago.

Ruby Tuesday, Inc, restaurant chain said first quarter revenues fell 6.6% to $324 million from $346.8 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 97% to $ 285,000 or 1 cent per diluted share compared to net income of $11.1 million or 21 cents per share, a year ago.

Comparable same-restaurant sales for the first quarter decreased 10.8%.

Ruby Tuesday, Inc (RT: chart) in the last one year traded as high as $20.26 in October 2007 and as low as $4.57 in July 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price the company has a market cap of $243.86 million.

RPM International Inc, specialty coatings and sealants manufacturer reported first quarter sales rose 5.9% to $985.5 million from $930.3 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 1.8% to $69.5 million or 54 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $68.3 million or 53 cents per share, a year ago.
