Houston Wire & Cable Co. (HWCC: chart), specialty electric wires maker, said that its third-quarter net earnings doubled to $9.47 million, or 45 cents per share, from $3.9 million, or 23 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter. Revenue climbed to $90 million from $58.3 million in the same quarter last year.

American Science and Engineering Inc. (ASEI: chart), X-ray inspection and screening systems supplier, said that its second-quarter net earnings fell to $4.75 million, or 49 cents per share, compared with $8.4 million, or 93 cents per share, in the same quarter a year ago. Revenue slipped to $29.6 million versus $49.1 million in the year-ago quarter.

Multi-Fineline Electronix Inc. (MFLX: chart), flexible printed circuits and circuit assemblies maker, said that its fourth-quarter net earnings fell to $2.19 million, or 9 cents per share, compared with $11 million, or 44 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter. Revenue plunged to $110.3 million from $110.9 million in fourth quarter last year.

XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (XMSR: chart), satellite radio service company, said that its third-quarter loss was down by 36% to $84 million, or 32 cents per share, versus a loss of $132 million, or 60 cents per share in the year-ago quarter. Revenue jumped 57% to $240.4 million from $153 million in the same quarter last year.
