Duckwall-ALCO Loss, Krispy Kreme Sales Drop

10:00AM New York - Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc revenue rose 4.7% and net loss was $1.7 million. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc revenue fell 8.7% and net loss was $5.9 million. Martek Biosciences Corporation revenue rose 10% and net income fell 43%.

Comarco, Inc, a provider of wireless industry products said third quarter revenues rose 35% to $4.2 million from $3.1 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $4.4 million or 59 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $2.6 million or 35 cents per share a year ago.

Comarco, Inc (CMRO) in the last one year traded as high as $6.01 in January 2008 and as low as $0.65 in November 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price of $1.11 the company has market cap of $8.13 million.

Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc, discount retailer said third quarter revenues rose 4.7% to $115.5 million from $110.3 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $1.7 million or 44 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $1.6 million or 43 cents per share a year ago.

Comparable same store sales fell 6.3%.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc, a branded retailer and wholesaler of doughnuts said third quarter revenues fell 8.7% to $94.3 million from $103.4 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $5.9 million or 9 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $798,000 or 1 cent per share a year ago.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc (KKD) in the last one year traded as high as $5.65 in June 2008 and as low as $1.76 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price of $2.30 the company has market cap of $155.48 million.

Martek Biosciences Corporation, which sells nutritional oils and dietary supplements said fourth quarter revenues rose 10% to $90.4 million from $82 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 43% to $10.5 million or 31 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $18.3 million or 55 cents per share a year ago.

Total revenues for the fiscal year 2008 rose 15% to $352.4 million from $306.8 million a year ago. Net income for the year rose 18% to $37.7 million or $1.13 per diluted share compared to net income of $32 million or 98 cents per share a year ago.

Fiscal year 2009 first quarter revenues are estimated between $86 million and $89 million. First quarter gross margin is expected to be approximately 42.5%. Net income for the first quarter is to be expected between $8.7 million and $9.7 million, and diluted earnings per share are expected between $0.27 and $0.29.

Martek Biosciences Corporation (MATK) in the last one year traded as high as $39.60 in August 2008 and as low as $22.47 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price of $27.32 the company has market cap of $904.81 million.
