CTV: chart), communications networks provider, said that its third-quarter net profit increased to $43.6 million, or 61 cents per share, from $11.5 million, or 18 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue jumped to $466.1 million from $345.6 million a year earlier.
Volcom Inc. (
VLCM: chart), designer, marketer and distributor of premium quality young men and women’s clothing, accessories and related products, said that its third-quarter net earnings fell to $10.2 million, or 42 cents per share, from $11.3 million, or 47 cents per share, last year. Revenue climbed to $61 million from $51.2 million a year earlier.
National Oilwell Varco Inc. (
NOV: chart), supplier of parts and services to the oil industry, reported third-quarter net income of $176.6 million, or $1 per share, up from $88.5 million, or 50 cents per share, in the year-earlier period. Revenue climbed to $1.78 billion from $1.24 billion, 44% higher than a year ago.
Sun Microsystems Inc. (
SUNW: chart), computer server and software maker, reported a net loss for the first quarter of fiscal 2007 on a GAAP basis of $56 million or 2 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $123 million, or 4 cents per share, for the first quarter of fiscal 2006. Revenues for the quarter were $3.189 billion, compared to $2.726 billion for the year-ago quarter. Revenue increased 17% on both acquisitions and increasing acceptance of the Solaris 10 Operating System, as well as growth in the services business.
Fortune Brands Inc. (
FO: chart), consumer goods maker, said that its third-quarter earnings rose to $151.3 million, or 98 cents per share, from a year-ago profit of $92.2 million, or 61 cents a share. Revenue climbed 23% in the latest quarter to $2.22 billion from $1.8 billion in the same period a year earlier.
RadiSys Corp. (
RSYS: chart), embedded computer systems maker, reported a third-quarter net profit of $13.3 million, or 62 cents per share versus net earnings of $5.92 million, or 25 cents per share in the same quarter last year. Revenue climbed to $81.4 million from $74.9 million in the third quarter a year ago.
SupportSoft Inc. (
SPRT: chart), software company, reported a third-quarter net loss of $1.7 million, or 4 cents a share, compared to a net loss of $85,000 in the year-ago period. Revenue dropped to $11.9 million from $13 million a year earlier.
