Cisco Rises; Blue Nile, Churchill Downs Falls

Online diamond and jewelry retailer second quarter sales rose 2.2% to $73.7 million and net income in the quarter fell 15% to $3.2 million or 20 cents a share. Another consumer spending related company, Churchill Downs, an operator of casinos revenue rose 6% to $179.3 million and net income was flat at $29.4 million or $2.10 a share. Networking giant, Cisco Systems fourth quarter sales rose 10% to $10.4 billion and net income increased 4% to $2.01 billion or 33 cents a share.

 
Blue Nile, Inc, the online diamond and jewelry retailer said second quarter sales rose 2.2% to $73.7 million from $72.1 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter falls 15% to $3.2 million or 20 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $3.8 million or 23 cents per share, a year ago.

In the just-ended fiscal year, Cisco's earnings were $8.1 billion, or $1.31 per share, on sales of $39.5 billion. In the previous fiscal year, net income was $7.3 billion on revenue of $34.9 billion.

ResMed Inc, U.S. respiratory equipment maker said second quarter revenues jumped 23% to $235.2 million from $191.3 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 7% to $29.6 million or 38 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $27.7 million or 35 per share, a year ago.
