AutoZone Flat Earnings, Pep Boys Loss Declines

10:50AM New York - Analogic Corporation revenue rose 8% and net income fell 95%. AutoZone, Inc sales rose 1.6% and net income fell 0.86%. The Pep Boys-Manny, Moe & Jack sales fell 12% and net loss was $7.3 million.

Analogic Corporation, designer and manufacturer of health and security imaging equipment said first quarter revenues rose 8% to 101.6 million from $94.2 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 95% to $320,000 or 2 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $6.4 million or 48 cents per share a year ago.

Analogic Corporation (ALOG) in the last one year traded as high as $76.93 in August 2008 and as low as $29.06 in November 2008. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $41.46 the company has market cap of $548.92 million.

AutoZone, Inc, a specialty retailer and a distributor of automotive replacement parts and accessories said first quarter sales rose 1.6% to $1.48 billion from $1.46 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 0.86% to $131.37 million or $2.23 per diluted share compared to net income of $132.52 million or $2.02 per share a year ago.

Comparable same store sales decreased 1.5%.

AutoZone, Inc (AZO) in the last one year traded as high as $143.80 in September 2008 and as low as $84.66 in November 2008. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $116.50 the company has market cap of $6.75 billion.

Bakers Footwear Group, Inc, a specialty retailer of moderately priced fashion footwear for young women said third quarter sales rose 1.9% to $41.08 million from $40.3 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $8.34 million or $1.18 per diluted share compared to net loss of $15.3 million or $2.35 per share a year ago.

Comparable same store sales rose 4.5%.

Bakers Footwear Group, Inc (BKRS) in the last one year traded as high as $3.90 in February 2008 and as low as $0.61 in December 2008. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $0.810 the company has market cap of $5.72 million.

Hi-Tech Pharmacal Co., Inc, a specialty manufacturer and marketer of prescription, over-the-counter and nutritional products said second quarter sales rose 58% to $25.1 million from $15.9 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter was $1.1 million or 9 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $1.0 million or 8 cents per share a year ago.

KMG Chemicals, Inc, manufactures, formulates and globally distributes specialty chemicals said first quarter sales rose 145% to $52.2 million from $21.3 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 4% to $1.6 million or 14 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $1.5 million or 14 cents per share a year ago.

The Pep Boys-Manny, Moe & Jack, an automotive retail and service chain said third quarter sales fell 12% to $464.2 million from $528.8 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $7.3 million or 14 cents per diluted share compared to net loss of $28.0 million or 54 cents per share a year ago.

Comparable same store sales decreased 10.4%.

The Pep Boys-Manny, Moe & Jack (PBY) in the last one year traded as high as $12.56 in February 2008 and as low as $2.69 in November 2008. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $4.99 the company has market cap of $258.68 million.

Rex Stores Corporation, a specialty retailer in the consumer electronics and appliance industry said third quarter sales rose 19% to $63.7 million from $53.4 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $0.7 million or 7 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $14.7 million or $1.25 per share a year ago.

Comparable same store sales decreased 13.6%.

Rex Stores Corporation (RSC) in the last one year traded as high as $21.15 in March 2008 and as low as $6.22 in November 2008. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $10.30 the company has market cap of $103.90 million.

The Kroger Co, one of the nation''s largest retail grocery chains said third quarter sales rose 9% to $17.6 billion from $16.1 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 6% to $237.7 million or 36 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $253.8 million or 37 cents per share a year ago.
