Amazon Net Rises 9%, CA Inc Net Falls

10:00AM New York - Amazon.com, Inc revenue rose 18% and net income rose 9%. CA, Inc revenue fell 5% and net income rose 31%. Dollar Financial Corp revenue fell 7% and net income fell 11%.

8x8, Inc the Internet telephony services provider said third quarter revenues rose 2.5% to $16.2 million from $15.8 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 87% to $180,000 or break even per diluted share compared to net income of $1.4 million or 2 cents per share a year ago.

8x8, Inc (EGHT) in the last one year traded as high as $1.30 in June 2008 and as low as $0.40 in December 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price of $0.511 the company has market cap of $31.85 million.

Amazon.com, Inc, the Internet based retailer said fourth quarter revenues rose 18% to $6.7 billion from $5.67 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 9% to $225 million or 52 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $207 million or 48 cents per share a year ago.

Total revenues for the fiscal year 2008 rose 30% to $19.2 billion from $14.8 billion a year ago. Net income for the year rose 35% to $645 million or $1.49 per diluted share compared to net income of $476 million or $1.12 per share a year ago.

Amazon.com, Inc (AMZN) in the last one year traded as high as $91.75 in August 2008 and as low as $34.68 in November 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price of $50.00 the company has market cap of $21.44 billion.

CA, Inc, Information technology management software maker said third quarter revenues fell 5% to $1.04 billion from $1.1 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 31% to $213 million or 40 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $163 million or 31 cents per share a year ago.

California Micro Devices Corporation, a supplier of application specific analog and mixed signal semiconductor products said third quarter revenues fell 35% to $9.7 million from $15.0 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $8.9 million or 38 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $230 million or 1 cent per share a year ago.

The Chubb Corporation, insurance company said fourth quarter underwriting income fell 8% to $443 million from $480 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 37% to $407 million or $1.13 per diluted share compared to net income of $650 million or $1.68 per share a year ago.

Underwriting Income for the fiscal year 2008 fell 33% to $1.4 billion from $2.1 billion a year ago. Net income for the year fell 36% to $1.8 billion or $4.92 per diluted share compared to net income of $2.81 billion or $7.01 per share a year ago.

The Chubb Corporation (CB) in the last one year traded as high as $69.39 in September 2008 and as low as $33.47 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price of $42.82 the company has market cap of $15.23 billion.

Dollar Financial Corp, a pay day lender and pawn shop operator said second quarter revenues fell 7% to $132.2 million from $141.7 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 11% to $11.6 million or 49 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $13 million or 53 cents per share a year ago.
