3M Sales Fall, Altria Net Declines, Ford Loss Surges

10:00AM New York - 3M Company sales fell 11.2% and net income fell 37%. Alaska Air Group, Inc revenue fell 3.1% and net loss was $75.2 million. Altria Group Inc revenue rose 3% and net income fell 69%.

3M Company, the maker of Scotch tape and Post-it notes reported fourth quarter sales fell 11.2% to $5.51 billion from $6.21 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 37% to $536 million or 77 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $851 million or $1.17 per share a year ago.

Net sales for the fiscal year 2008 rose 3.3% to $25.3 billion from $24.5 billion a year ago. Net income for the year fell 15% to $3.5 billion or $4.89 per diluted share compared to net income of $4.1 billion or $5.60 per share a year ago.

3M Company (MMM) in the last one year traded as high as $83.22 in April 2008 and as low as $50.01 in January 2009. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $55.42 the company has market cap of $38.40 billion.

Alaska Air Group, Inc, operator of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air reported fourth quarter revenues fell 3.1% to $827.1 million from $853.4 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $75.2 million or $2.08 per diluted share compared to net income of $7.4 million or 19 cents per share a year ago.

Total operating revenues for the fiscal year 2008 rose 6% to $3.7 billion from $3.5 billion a year ago. Net loss for the year was $135.9 million or $3.74 per diluted share compared to net income of $124.3 million or $3.07 per share a year ago.

Alaska Air Group, Inc (ALK) in the last one year traded as high as $30.95 in January 2009 and as low as $10.10 in July 2008. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $26.61 the company has market cap of $963.52 million.

Altria Group Inc, the largest cigarette maker reported fourth quarter revenues rose 3% to $4.65 billion from $4.53 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 69% to $679 million or 33 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $2.19 billion or $1.03 per share a year ago.

Net revenues for the fiscal year 2008 rose 4% to $19.36 billion from $18.66 billion a year ago. Net income for the year fell 50% to $4.93 billion or $2.36 per diluted share compared to net income of $9.79 billion or $4.62 per share a year ago.

Altria Group Inc (MO) in the last one year traded as high as $24.40 in January 2008 and as low as $14.34 in November 2008. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $16.80 the company has market cap of $34.61 billion.

AutoNation, Inc, the largest automotive retailer reported fourth quarter revenues fell 34% to $2.74 billion from $4.14 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 30% to $67.1 million or 38 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $51.7 million or 28 cents per share a year ago.

Net revenues for the fiscal year 2008 fell 19% to $14.1 billion from $17.3 billion a year ago. Net loss for the year was $1.24 billion or $6.99 per diluted share compared to net income of $278.7 million or $1.39 per share a year ago.

AutoNation, Inc (AN) in the last one year traded as high as $19.59 in May 2008 and as low as $3.97 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $9.24 the company has market cap of $1.63 billion.

Ball Corporation, a manufacturer of metal and plastic packaging reported fourth quarter sales fell 2% to $1.73 billion from $1.76 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 3% to $34 million or 36 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $33 million or 33 cents per share a year ago.

Net sales for the fiscal year 2008 rose 2.3% to $7.56 billion from $7.39 billion a year ago. Net income for the year rose 14% to $319.5 million or $3.29 per diluted share compared to net income of $281.3 million or $2.74 per share a year ago.

Ball Corporation (BLL) in the last one year traded as high as $56.20 in May 2008 and as low as $27.37 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $40.08 the company has market cap of $3.79 billion.

Colgate-Palmolive Company, the consumer products company reported fourth quarter sales rose 0.5% to $3.66 billion from $3.64 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 20% to $497 million or 94 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $414.9 million or 77 cents per share a year ago.

Net sales for the fiscal year 2008 rose 11% to $15.3 billion from $13.8 billion a year ago. Net income for the year rose 18% to $2 billion or $3.66 per diluted share compared to net income of $1.7 billion or $3.20 per share a year ago.

Colgate-Palmolive Company (CL) in the last one year traded as high as $80.49 in September 2008 and as low as $54.36 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday''s closing price of $63.85 the company has market cap of $32.23 billion.

Dominion Resources, Inc, the energy producer reported fourth quarter revenues rose 14% to $4.17 billion from $3.65 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 16% to $348 million or 60 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $299 million or 52 cents per share a year ago.
