For the second quarter, net income was $21.1 million, or 31 cents a share, up from $14.7 million, or 19 cents a share, a year ago.
The retailer''s second-quarter net income rose 43% as the company''s lower-priced items helped attract teen customers in the worsening economy. Earlier this month Aeropostale lifted its guidance a second time to 30 cents to 31 cents. Revenue for the quarter increased 21% to $377.1 million, with same-store sales rising 11%. Gross margin jumped to 33.4% from 31.1% a year ago. Aeropostale forecasted fiscal third-quarter earnings of 59 cents to 61 cents a share.

Profit rose 27% to $17.5 million as same-store sales jumped, despite a weak economy.
Revenue rose to $336.3 million from $275.8 million last year. Comparable store sales transactions were up 7%, units per transactions were up 3% and average unit retail was essentially flat. The company opened 21 stores and closed one. Gross profit increased 25% while gross margins were at 33.1% versus 32.2% last year. The company expects Q2 earnings to be in a range of 22 cents to 24 cents per share compared to 19 cents per share last year.

Sales were $591.3 million, up 16.7% from $506.8 million in 2006 driven by average square footage and comparable growth offset by the calendar shift.
The specialty retailer announced income of $64.7 million, or 96 cents a share, up 12.9% from $57.3 million or 73 cents a share in the prior year on revenue growth. The firm executed an accelerated share repurchase of $125 million or 4.8 million shares of its common stock, bringing the total shares repurchased under the program in 2007 to $266.5 million or 11.7 million shares. The firm will be developing a new concept building on its core competencies, while targeting a younger demographic.

Net income was $14.7 million or 19 cents per share, a growth of 90% versus $8.4 million or 10 cents per diluted share in prior year.
The specialty retailer of casual apparel for youth reported revenue increase of 13.3% over the prior year to $311.2 million. The 9% growth in average square footage and shift in calendar offset a 4.1% decline in the same store sales. During the quarter, the firm opened 27 ARO stores, ending the quarter with 777 ARO stores in the US, one store in Canada and 14 Jimmy stores. For the third quarter, Aeropostale projects earnings per share of 43 cents to 45 cents.

The specialty retailer of casual apparel and accessories reported revenue increase of 12% to $275.8 million, driven by an average square footage growth of approximately 9% and a same store sales increase of 2.5%. During the quarter, Aeropostale opened 25 Aero stores and closed two, ending the quarter with the total of 751 Aero and 14 Jimmy’Z stores. For the second quarter, the company believes it will achieve earnings in the range 26 cents to 28 cents per share.

Quarterly earnings grew to $57.3 million, or $1.08 per share, from $41.8 million, or 76 cents per share, in the year-ago period.
The apparel retailer said that its quarterly sales advanced to $506.8 million from $435.2 million a year ago, beating the analysts'' estimates. Full-year earnings jumped to $106.6 million, or $1.98 per share, from $84 million, or $1.50 per share. Annual sales increased to $1.41 billion from $1.2 billion a year ago. Aeropostale opened four new stores during the quarter, ending the year with a total of 728 stores in 47 states.
