Net income fell to $3.5 million, or 24 cents per share, from $7.5 million, or 45 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.
Sales declined 23% to $85.8 million from $111.9 million as business suffered from a drop in consumer spending and a sluggish holiday season. For the year, net income fell 33% to $11.6 million, or 75 cents per share, from $17.5 million, or $1.04 per share. Sales fell 7.5% to $295.3 million.

Net profit fell to $2.3 million, or 15 cents per share, in the third quarter, from $3 million, or 18 cents per share, a year ago.
Total sales lost 3% to $65.4 million, although international sales rose 53% from a year earlier. October sales declined 20% percent, and international sales also began to drop. Blue Nile withdrew its full-year forecast, citing uncertainty over consumer spending.

Net income fell to $3.2 million, or 20 cents per share in the second quarter, from $3.78 million, or 23 cents a share, a year ago.
The online jewelry retailer posted a 2% increase in the latest quarter revenue to $73.7 million. Sales in the U.S. declined 5%, while international sales jumped 179% to $8.1 million. Blue Nile cut its sales forecast for 2008 and expects net sales to increase on a percentage basis in the mid-single digits, down from the previous guidance of a 10% jump. For the third quarter, net sales are seen flat or up 5%, while net earnings per share should range between 15 and 17 cents per share.

Sales rose nearly 4% to $70.5 million. Gross profit was $13.9 million, an increase of 5.1% year over year. Operating income totaled $3 million, representing an operating margin of 4.3%. Cash from operations is typically negative in the first quarter of fiscal year due to the reduction in accounts payable following the fourth quarter holiday season. Despite the slowdown in the economy, the net profit touched $7.5 million, an increase of 31% from $5.8 million in the prior year.
The online retailer of diamond jewelry reported 23% increase in revenue over last year to $111.9 million. While Mark Vandon, the founder of Blue Nile, has assumed the role of Executive Chairman, Diane Irvine, who was the chief financial officer, has been promoted as chief executive officer. In 2007, the company launched two local currency websites, serving the Canadian and UK markets. The firm, which witnessed weak demand in January, has projected EPS of 11 cents to 14 cents for Q1.

Earnings were $3 million, or 18 cents per share, compared with $1.8 million, or 11 cents per share, a year ago.
The online jewelry retailer said that its quarterly profit rose 66.7% from a year ago, as international sales, representing Blue Nile’s Canada and UK web sites, jumped 104.5% from a year ago to $4.5 million. Revenue rose 21% from a year ago to $67.4 million, while expenses jumped 18% to $9.7 million. For the fourth quarter the company forecasts earnings of between 40 cents and 45 cents per share, on revenue of between $109 and $115 million.

The leading online jewelry retailer reported revenue of $72.1 million, up 26.7% over the previous year, as the total orders increased 27.2% compared to a year ago. During the quarter, Blue Nile launched an exclusive collection of rare fancy colored diamonds, providing the consumers access to extremely rare gems. For fiscal 2007, the firm expects net income per diluted share to be between 94 cents and 99 cents, an increase from previous EPS guidance range of 86 cents to 91 cents.

Blue Nile repurchased 344,655 shares of its common stock for $13.5 million. For Q2, the company expects net sales to be between $65.5 million and $67.5 million.
