Income was up 11% to $2.1 billion or 33 cents a share on strong revenue and order growth driven by a broad base of geographies and customer markets.
The networking firm reported a 17% increase in net sales to $9.8 billion from $8.4 billion in the prior year on a strong order club. The firm’s solid financials, strong balance sheet and continuing investment in a diversified technology portfolio across new and adjacent markets will maintain its ability to drive long-term shareholder value. In addition, the next phase of the Internet will center on collaboration enabled by network Web 2.0 technologies.

Eagle Materials Third Quarter Earnings Call

The earnings were $22.4 million or 50 cents per share as against $40.9 million or 83 cents per share in the prior year quarter.
The manufacturer of gypsum wallboard and cement reported revenue of $173 million, down 19% from the prior year quarter. During the quarter, the company completed the construction of its new wallboard facility in Georgetown, South Carolina and the plant started operations in early January. Eagle Materials, in order to facilitate the appeals process with the IRS during the third quarter, paid the IRS $45.8 million related to the audit of its 2001 through 2003 tax returns.

Monster Worldwide Fourth Quarter Earnings Call

Profit rose more than 15% to $45 million on strong international revenue growth.
The online job listings company reported revenue increase to $354 million from $298.6 million, driven by a more than 59% jump in international revenue to $143.3 million. The company is increasing its stock buyback by $100 million, to $450 million, and expects to spend about $200 million to $225 million cash to buy its remaining stake in ChinaHR. The company has invested to add capacity and flexibility while increasing the speed of delivery.

Income rose to $13 million or 52 cents a share, from a loss of $52 million or $2.23 a share on increased store and regional margins.
The financial services provider reported a 23.1% growth in revenues to $125.7 million from $102 million in 2006 on successful identification and integration of acquisitions. The firm continued to leverage existing infrastructure and cost structure, enabling it to increase store and regional margin. Going forward, resources will be focused on the most strategic investment opportunities across all three geographic markets.

Profit fell 4% to $23.4 million as sales at established stores declined amid a weak retail environment.
The apparel retailer’s revenue increased 3% to $203.3 million from $196.8 million last year. The weighted average shares outstanding fell 5% to $90.2 million. Same-store sales fell 7.9%.Gross margin as a percentage of sales fell to 46.2% from 47.9%, hurt partly by higher markdowns. For 2008, capital expenditures are planned at approximately $45 million for new and expanded stores, IS&T and office improvements.

News Corporation Second Quarter Earnings Call

Income marginally increased to $832 million or 27 cents a share, as management rules out a bid for Yahoo!
The media firm had a 10% rise in revenues from $7.8 billion in 2006 to $8.6 billion as the strength of the broadcast network and cable assets enabled it to capitalize on the current advertising market, while ramping up affiliate revenues across cable channels. The firm is also generating increased profits internationally led by continued subscriber growth at Sky Italia and expanded offerings from Fox International Cable channels hence the revenue guidance increase.

Gannett Fourth Quarter Earnings Call

Excluding $110 million pretax impairment charges, the earnings for the quarter were $1.28 per share.
The leading media company that owns USA Today reported operating revenue of $1.9 billion for the quarter. The slowing US economy, driven by the meltdown in the housing market contributed to a very soft advertising environment, with the classified advertising hit most hard. During the quarter, Gannett entered into a joint venture with Tribune Interactive to expand its Metro Mix brand and it has also acquired a controlling interest in Schedule Start LLC and highschoolsports.net.

UAL Fourth Quarter Earnings Call

Revenues increased 4% from $19.3 billion in 2006 to $20.14 billion, driven by consistent strength in the international markets.
The airliner reported income of $403 million or $3.34 a share, down 98% from $22 billion or $196.6 a share in the prior year due to the absence of net reorganization income of $22.9 billion realised in 2006. The firm was however, able to produce solid cost performance despite inflationary pressures and a reduction in mainline capacity. This performance drove strong gains in cash flows which was used to delever the balance sheet.

Wipro Third Quarter Earnings Call

Revenue increased 32% from a year ago to $1.33 billion on the back of strong revenue growth in the Global IT segment.
The information technology solutions and services provider reported an 11% increase in net income to $210 million or 14 cents over the same period in 2006 due to new technology and enterprise clients as well as large deals in the market place. The firm had robust growth in the BPO business and Testing Services and won several new deals and awards in the process.

McKesson Third Quarter Earnings Call

Net income dropped 17% on charges and lower profit margins on two drugs that were big sellers in the prior-year quarter.
The San Francisco-based pharmaceutical distributor’s sales grew by 15% thanks largely to gains in its core pharmaceutical distribution business. Earnings were hit by an 11-cent per-share charge for various one-time items. Operating expenses were negatively impacted by $38 million in pre-tax charges, $13 million of which were non-tax deductible. The company sees earnings this year of $3.22 to $3.32 a share, excluding one-time adjustments for securities litigation reserves.
