Net income was $36.2 million or 71 cents per share compared to $35.8 million or 67 cents per share in the prior year.
Despite a challenging economic backdrop, the leading motorsports company reported near record revenue of $193.9 million for the quarter, driven by higher merchandise, sponsorship, television and ancillary media revenues. During Q1, International Speedway announced a 10 year multi million dollar sponsorship with Auto Club of Southern California to rename California Speedway as Auto Club Speedway of Southern California. For fiscal 2008, the firm projects EPS of $3.05 to $3.15.

Ruby Tuesday Third Quarter Earnings Call

EPS was 23 cents versus 49 cents in last year and the EPS impact of costs with the remodel initiative in the quarter was 6 cents.
The restaurant operator recorded slower third quarter same-restaurant sales down 12.7% while same-store restaurant sales at domestic franchise decreased 12% compared with 1% decrease and 1.8% increase at company owned and domestic franchise restaurants respectively in Q3 last year. The management estimates the quarter was negatively impacted by about 0.6% and 0.8% at company owned and domestic franchise restaurants respectively due to heavier winter weather than in the same period last year.

General Electric First Quarter Earnings Call

Profit fell 6% to $4.3 billion as a slowing U.S. economy sapped its financial services business.
Revenue climbed 8% to $42.24 billion from $39.20 billion, with global revenue up 22%.Earnings from continuing operations totaled $4.4 billion, or 44 cents per share, down 8% year-over-year. NBC Universal grew profits 3%, while health care earnings were hurt by continued regulatory shipping restrictions on surgical supplies. The company lowered its full-year outlook for earnings from continuing operations to between $2.20 and $2.30 per share.

Circuit City Stores Fourth Quarter Earnings Call

The company swung to profit of $4.85 million, as cost cutting offset lower sales for a period that included the bulk of holiday-shopping season.
The electronics retailer reported revenue decrease of 8% to $3.65 billion. Same-store sales fell 10.4%. Video sales saw a low-double-digit decrease, with double-digit sales growth in flat-screen televisions unable to offset sales decreases in tube and projection televisions. For Q1, the company expects a loss from continuing operations before taxes of $180 million to $195 million, due to weak operating trends.

Christopher and Banks Fourth Quarter Earnings Call

Net loss was $8.3 million or 23 cents a share, down from a profit of $1.92 million or 5 cents a share in the prior year on declining sales.
The retailer of women’s clothes reported sales of $125 million, down 6.5% from $134 million in 2007 as comparable store sales fell. Christopher and Banks is making progress on initiatives that will build a stronger platform and allow it to evolve and improve internal operations and store processes. In the meantime, the firm is positioned to navigate through a challenging environment, with inventory per store down 22% and merchandise receipt levels planned conservatively.

ConAgra Foods Third Quarter Earnings Call

Earnings of $309 million or 63 cents, were up 61% from $193million or 38 cents in 2007 on strong top line performance.
The packaged food’s firm reported sales of $3.5 billion, a 21% rise from $2.9 billion in 2007 as it benefited from an increase in volume growth and price mix. ConAgra Foods announced an agreement to divest the Trading & Merchandising operations, which will result in a focus on the core food businesses. Due to the innovation, pricing, marketing, and cost-saving initiatives under way, the firm is confident that the foundation has been set for strong future profitability.

Joy Global First Quarter Earnings Call

Income rose 19% to $71 million or 66 cents a share from $60 million or 52 cents a share on continued improvement in product margins.
The provider of mining solutions, reported sales of $640 million, up 14% from $560.5 million a year ago due to an increase for surface mining equipment products and underground mining machinery product. Joy Global’s resolution of operational issues has been the basis for increased shipping levels. Investments made to date to expand mining production levels have not been sufficient to keep up with demand hence the firm will continue investing to stay up with expected demand growth.

H.B. Fuller First Quarter Earnings Call

Earnings fell 13% to $18.2 million, hurt by a difficult economic environment and higher raw material costs.
Revenue fell 3% to $322.6 million from $333.4 million, failing to meet analysts’ expectations of $333.4 million. Shares outstanding fell 6% to 57.6 million from 61.2 million. An economic slowdown and higher raw material costs hurt results. Total debt was $214.8 million compared to $197.2 million at the end of the first quarter 2007 and was up $42.2 million on a sequential basis. The company expects full-year profit of $1.76 to $1.86 a share.

Alcoa First Quarter Earnings Call

Hurt by the higher input and energy costs as well as weaker US dollar, the net income dropped to $303 million versus $632 in prior year.
The leading producer of aluminum and alumina reported revenue of $7.38 billion, down 7% from $7.91 billion in the previous year. The deterioration in the value of the dollar negatively impacted results by $68 million or 8 cents per share on a sequential basis. Alcoa funded numerous growth investments in the quarter including the new Juruti bauxite mine and Sao Luis refinery in Brazil and the acquisition of two aerospace fastening companies.

International Game Technology Second Quarter Earnings Call

The net income totaled $128.2 million or 38 cents per share versus $124 million or 35 cents per share in last year.
The designer and maker of gaming machines and products reported record revenue from gaming operations of $341.1 million versus $311.2 million in the prior year. The installed base of recurring revenue machines at the end of the Q2 was at a record 54,800 units, up 10,400 units from the prior year, primarily due to incremental lease operations placements in Mexico, New York, Delaware and Rhode Island. The firm repurchased 8.3 million shares in the six months for $362.7 million.
