Strong revenue pushed the profit up 66% from RMB143.5 million in the prior year to RMB238.9 million.
The shanghai based entertainment media company reported revenue of $87.4 million, up 50.3% from the prior year, mainly due to organic growth of the existing business. During the quarter, Shanda successfully completed its acquisition of Chengdu Aurora Technology, a leading MMORPG developer and operator in China and increased its stake in Actoz Soft, online game developer in South Korea, to over 50%. The firm expects its revenues for Q4 to increase 47% over the sequential quarter.

AT&T First Quarter Earnings Call

Revenue rose 84% from a year ago, bolstered by the acquisition, to $28.97 billion.
AT&T reported revenue increase to $2.85 billion, up from the year-ago $1.45 billion. Excluding certain costs, earnings were 65 cents a share. Wireless revenue rose 11% from a year ago and wireline revenue fell 3.2% on a pro forma basis, including the results of BellSouth in both periods. Primary consumer lines across the 22 states where AT&T has its regional operations declined by 285,000. AT&T repurchased 81 million of its shares for $3 billion.

The McClatchy Company Third Quarter Earnings Call

Earnings from continuing operations were $23.5 million, subject to non-cash charge to GAAP earnings for impairment of good will and long-lived assets.
The McClatchy company reported revenue decrease of 9.2% to $540.3 million versus $595.1 million in the same period in 2006. Advertising revenues fell 9.8%, while circulation revenues fell 3.7%. Total losses recorded from unconsolidated investments were $7.7 million compared to losses from unconsolidated investments in the third quarter of 2006 of $0.8 million. The company expects debt to be approximately $2.5 billion at the end of 2007.

Advertising revenues were down 9.8%, hurt by the downturn of the real estate market, particularly in California and Florida.
The McClatchy company reported revenue increase to 580 million from $212 million after the acquisition of 20 newspapers. Earnings from continuing operations in the latest quarter were $32.2 million, or 69 cents a share. Employment was affected by the current affiliate agreement with CareerBuilder for online employment advertising. Direct marketing advertising revenues declined 3.9%, reflecting the overall slow advertising environment.

Profit increased to $82.9 million as business growth was countered by higher taxes and expansion costs.
Cintas reported revenue increase of 7% to $983.9 million, failing to meet expectation of $986 million. Strong growth in emerging business units was offset by the costs to expand those businesses. Cintas was hurt by an increase in its effective tax rate. The company purchased 5.2 million shares of its stock in open market purchases. The company expanded document management business beyond North America by acquiring a document management company in The Netherlands.

The designer and manufacturer of interior furnishings recorded revenue of $505.9 million, a modest increase of 1.4% over last year. Orders of $573 million for the second quarter were the highest level seen in the last seven years, an increase of over 8% compared to year ago levels. Herman Miller expects to complete the acquisition of the Brandrud in the third quarter. The firm anticipates third quarter sales to be in the range of $475 million to $500 million.

The net income of $154.8 million or 41 cents a share represents an increase of 23% from prior year, on strong sales.
The leading marketer of modern classic American accessories reported revenue of $676.7 million as against $529 million in the prior year quarter, on 26% growth in direct to consumer sales and 35% growth in indirect sales. During the quarter, Coach opened 13 retail stores and three factory stores in North America, bringing the total to 272 retail stores and 96 factory stores. For Q2, the company projects earnings of 68 cents per share, on revenue of about $970 million.

Profit increased to $455.5 million, helped by higher sales and cost controls.
The U.S. drugstore operator’s revenue increased 10.4% to $14.03 billion, failing to meet analysts’ expectations of $14.11 billion. Same-store sales rose 5.4%, while front-end same-drugstore sales rose 4.6%. Prescription sales, which accounted for 66.1% of sales, climbed 11.1%. Prescription sales in comparable stores rose 5.9%, while the number of prescriptions filled in comparable stores increased 3.7%. The company plans to open 550 new stores in 2007, with a net increase of more than 475.

Research In Motion Third Quarter Earnings Call

Profit increased to $370.5 million amid continued strong demand for the company's smartphone products.
Research In Motion reported revenue increase of 100% to $1.67 billion, beating analysts’ expectations of $1.65 billion. The revenue breakdown was approximately 80% for devices, 14% for service, 4% for software and 2% for other revenue. Approximately 1.65 million BlackBerry subscriber accounts were added and over 3.9 million devices were shipped. For Q4, RIM expects to add about 1.82 million subscribers.
