| Blockbuster, Coldwater Creek, and Longs Drug fell after the release of earnings. Blockbuster revenue in the fourth quarter rose 3.6% and earnings increased to 50%. Coldwater Creek fourth quarter revenue declined 7% but earnings rose to $17 million from $15.9 million. Longs Drug fourth quarter sales rose 11% and earnings rose to $37.2 million. |

| Big Lots reported fourth quarter sales decline of 10% to $1.4 billion and earnings fall of 8% to $92 million. Earnings per share rose to $1.04 from $0.94. Operating profit increased to 9.4% from 8.9% a year ago. For the year retailer reported $158 million compared to $124 million or $1.55 per share compared to $1.11. For the year sales rose to $4.74 billion from $4.66 billion. |

| Net profit fell to $679 million or 31 cents per share from $726 million or 32 cents per share in 2007. For the fiscal year 2008 revenue rose 6% to $61.13 billion compared with $57.42 billion in fiscal 2007 and earnings increased 14% to $2.94 billion or $1.31 per share from $2.58 billion or $1.14 per share in fiscal 2007. Sales in the fourth quarter rose 10% from a year ago and 2% from third quarter. Earnings in the quarter rose 6% from a year ago and 11% from the third quarter. |

| HSBC reported total operating income rose 25% to $87 billion from $70 billion from a year ago thanks to revenues from emerging markets that offset subprime related losses. Profits before tax grew 24.8% to $6 billion in the rest of the Asia-Pacific region, while profit rose 35.5% from $6.9 billion to $8.5 billion in Europe. HSBC issued a cautious 2008 outlook. |
